Relative to George, he is floating in space with the apple beside him. He is in free fall and feels exactly like you would when you are in a free fall ride at a theme park. When he reaches out to hold the apple, he senses no resistance. The apple wasn't moving and we can assume he does not change its motion. He only reaches out to hold it.
One thing that you both agree on, if the laws of Physics are the same for both of you, is that the apple is in the GRIP of gravity, and the apple does not want to change its motion from the motion that gravity gives it. Relative to George, gravity is making the apple not want to change its speed.
